I am a PhD candidate in the Sunderland lab at the Faculty of Forestry. My research focuses on land rights and sustainable land use among women and vulnerable communities in the Colombian Amazon, drawing upon both qualitative and quantitative methods. While at UBC, I have partnered with the Center for International Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), based in Cali, Colombia, as well as the University of Heidelberg in Germany. My research has been supported by Mitacs Go Global, the IDRC John G. Bene Fellowship, UBC’s Public Scholar’s Initiative, and the UBC Latin American Landscapes Cluster. I have degrees in economics and environmental policy from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in environmental science and management from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I worked to develop a business model for the sale of biochar on California farms and vineyards. Prior to beginning my PhD I worked in international development in Latin America and Africa, specifically working with forest-dependent communities in Mexico, Peru, Brazil and Burkina Faso.
